My 3D Desktop

24-Dec-2012 - Added slideshow wallpaper feature, autofocus on selected icon, automatic loading of user desktop icons, screen margin navigaton option for touch screen devices. My 3D Desktop is a 3D user interface that comes as an alternative to the classic Windows 2D desktop. It is written in Delphi and uses the GLScene OpenGL library. My 3D Desktop lets you add 3D shortcuts to your favorite applications and/or files as cubes and lets you move them around in 3D. You can also add photos besides a classic wallpaper. The 3D shortcuts and photos can be set to spin around. My 3D Desktop also lets you browse, open, copy/move/delete files and folders on your computer using a 3D text representation of the file structure. There is also a task bar representation of all visible applications in the form of a list of tiles that can be controlled in a similar manner in which you do with the classic Windows taskbar. You also can preview the application's main window for any progress.

Tron

Tron is a console application (now discontinued) which simulates user intervention for otherwise unscriptable applications. It can simulate keystrokes, mouse clicks and movements from scripts allowing the control of applications running in the foreground. It can be used to write automated tests for user interfaces or to ease repetitive jobs with applications which do not support scripting natively. It has a modular design which allows it to be extended easily and is not tied to any particular scripting or programming language.

EDITEL

One of the hardest things to do when coding with COBOL is translating a screen design into code. The process may take hours, not to say days. In my old BLIS-COBOL, COBOL 74 and COBOL 80 /85 days (and those last 2 had the SCREEN SECTION which helped a lot !), I recall spending a significant amount of time dedicated to that activity. Time that could be used for more productive activities like coding and resolving bugs, for instance. Having said that, I developed a Screen Editor (similar to a Screen Painter, as some tools may call it) which allows the user to create screen layouts (which includes the use of colors) with delimited fields and respective input masks, and finally generate the SCREEN SECTION code that reflects that layout. All of it automatically - no code needed. The idea came from a program I used to use named EDITEL. I have adapted the concept (it was originally built for BLIS COBOL systems) and created a version that does this for GnuCOBOL and Microfocus COBOL. Enjoy !
