Hi all
[ Please CC me on reply, I am not subscribed to this list ].

Upstream Qt recommends to stop using Qt4 next year. This means that Debian is already trying to get rid of it¹². This has impact for the Lazarus package as the Qt lcl depends on Qt4 to work.

Rather late than never, I started on packaging the libqt5pas bindings for Debian, which should be available. However, that is rather useless as long as Lazarus isn't ported to use the Qt5 bindings. I was wondering, is anybody here working on porting the Qt lcl to Qt5?

Qt5 is already ported and it works. CBindings are in lcl/interfaces/qt5/cbindings so you can build package libQt5Pas. Lazarus 1.8 release will contain qt5 widgetset.

P.S: fix date on your computer

Building libQt5Pas already worked, it just wasn't useful until something was going to use it.

Lazarus 1.8 release will contain qt5 widgetset.

Great. I noticed in the release notes.³ I assume I can build the IDE with qt5 now instead of qt. I already started on packaging the release candidate.

P.S: fix date on your computer

Can you please elaborate on this? As far as I see it is correct and even continuously updated with ntp.

I'm using qt5 ide for few months, it's stable as qt4 ide is. If you need anything about qt5 bindings just drop me an email.

Date of your mail is 24.11.2016 for some reason :)

Yes, that's only explanation. In any case you can contact me directly via e-mail ...

In the past, we were getting the c-bindings from Jan van Hijfte's web-site¹. It seems that the source in Lazarus is now more up-to-date. Is Lazarus now taking over the maintenance of the bindings?

I believe Jan is reading this list. It would be great if he would mention this on his web-site as well.

In Debian we call the "make bigide LCL_PLATFORM=qt5" target but that fails during linking. What is the intended make target to build the IDE for qt5? My (maybe naive) approach would be to build the libqtpas package with the binding from lazarus and then build lazarus using those library files, but I expect you have something else in mind?

1.Build libQt5Pas (lcl/interfaces/qt5/cbindings) and put it somewhere in $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
2.Build lazarus
3.Start lazarus
4.It works :)
