LCL based image viewer like ACDSee?

Hi,

Has anybody implemented a ACDSee (v2.x or v3.x style) clone using Lazarus yet? Free Pascal's fpImage units support various image file formats, so it should be relatively easy to accomplish.

I'm just curious, because gThumb and Eog under Linux really suck! They are very slow and feature incomplete and have bad keyboard navigation support. ACDSee did pre and post image caching, nice keyboard support and was lightning fast. I did find a old project called GTKSee which is a ACDSee clone and works brilliantly, but the project seems abandoned - plus it's written in C and GTK 1 directly, so is hard to add new features.

Regards,

While it is not what you want, AFAIK a popular FastStone Image Viewer is implemented in Delphi. It is, unfortunately, closed course and Windows-only.

i know another commercial delphi-based graphic processing application (no commercial here). It has really nice and fast image viewer. But again, it's close-sourced.

Graeme, what's your interest in this kind of software?

If none exist, to write such an application using Free Pascal & Lazarus/fpGUI. :-) Or at least put it on my todo list for later in the year.

Required features:
* excellent keyboard navigation support
* full screen support
* dynamically adjust windows size or image size while viewing
* cache previous and next image for quicker viewing.
* toolbar prev and next buttons (and mouse being repositioned on those after clicking).
* thumbnail view
* directory browse feature

You could try GQView... it's fast and simple and I think it fullfills most parts of your requirements.

are you interested in LCL version of viewer, or fpGUI?

For now it will be LCL based. fpGUI doesn't use the fpImage and fpCanvas units of Free Pascal yet (but will in mid 2009). At that time, I'll see if it's worth the effort to port the viewer to fpGUI (but I don't think I would need to). At least if it is LCL based, more developers can contribute features and plugins to the viewer.

imho, the whole point is that viewer is FCL/LCL based. so, it's possible to modify or extend it yourself and/or learn some features of FCL/LCL graphics.

... at least +1 FPC based application :)
