It's not unsupported. It's just that no one had found the time to create a release installer yet and Solaris definitely isn't a "delay release" target...

I know this isn't directly helpful, but when I tested Lazarus on SPARC OpenSXCE I started off with the 2.x installer... which I don't immediately see available any more. Is there anything I can do to help build this, or is there a generic installation script that can be used?

Graeme, what's the situation with Solaris on i386 and x64? I've seen comment that as supplied by Sun it selects either a 32-bit or a 64-bit kernel etc. depending on the hardware, but I notice that OpenSXCE (n Illumos derivative) has separate DVD images. Is FPC 32- or 64-bit on this platform, or are there two variants?

I don't know. I still have both an OpenIndiana and OpenSolaris servers running here. They were set up years ago and still ticking over happily. Both are 32-bit as they were installed on old hardware at the time. I simply wanted to update FPC on both those system.

Many thanks for that information Sven. Good to know Solaris is still a supported FPC platform.

Just curious... what is the process of creating an official console installer for FPC? Is this process documented somewhere? I might be of assistance.

Some notes are on the "release engineering" page in the wiki.

I hope to find time to take a look at both 32- and 64-bit variants of OpenSXCE over the next few days, the 32-bit version might only be on Qemu.

I'm using OpenSXCE because it has a fairly up-to-date SPARC variant, which I don't believe is the case for Illumos. OpenSXCE appears to lean towards GNU utilities- I don't know whether that's its own quirk or whether it inherits that from Illumos, and I don't know whether that has any bearing on the FPC installation script which doesn't like- in particular- the Sun/Solaris/SunOS tar.

Hi,

I generated today two installers for
i386-solaris
ftp://ftp.hu.freepascal.org/pub/fpc/dist/3.0.0/i386-solaris/ and x86_64-solaris.
ftp://ftp.hu.freepascal.org/pub/fpc/dist/3.0.0/x86_64-solaris/

These installer come with a GDB-enabled FP IDE,
which was compiled on a Oracle Solaris machine, and which relies on a number of dynamic libraries to be present... So, if you have OpenIndiana or OpenSolaris, the IDE will most probably not work...

There is a readme-solaris.txt file that explains what I had to change (with diffs) to be able to generate an installer that more or less works for solaris.
I did NOT have the time to test it.

Please report if you have troubles,

Pierre Muller

I had to change install.sh script again, as
my previous change resulted in using gtar for TAR and tar for CMDTAR variable...
which did not go well...
I still get some errors while expanding that tar files, but the installation seems to complete correctly now.
