Hi, Anybody know of a Free Pascal compatible NNTP client (news reader) component?

Indy has the NNTP client protocol implemented.
(it has in Delphi, so I suppose the FPC port also has it)

Michael.

A few years back, there was a project to update an old FIDO reader to multiple projects called OpenXP.

Their site seems to have gone the way of the dodo, but afaik the source can still be downloaded.

http://www.openxp.de/

It was mostly in German, though they had starting making an english site + docs too, maybe you can find parts of those.

Otherwise: the usual socket suits. I'm sure Ales will implement it into LNet instantly. Otherwise: use Indy.

Thanks, I'll look at LNet and Indy. I remember using Indy in my Delphi days, but didn't know it's been ported to Free Pascal - that's awesome.

Indy9 is ported, but windows only.

Indy10 was set up more portable, and after an initial port from me, JP Mugaas did a lot of work to get it integrated and up to speed.

Unfortunately, the examples never got to the level of indy9, but for sb with indy experience that is not such a big problem.

Yes. I also use Synapse (http://ararat.cz/synapse/doku.php) and it works very good. I also didn't use the NNTP client though.
