I'm trying to compile on suse 9.2 but when I use the "dl" unit and the "cthreads" unit the linker don't work.
it can't find -ldl.

I've tryed to use this compiler options without success:

{$IFDEF FPC}
{$IFDEF UNIX}
{$IFNDEF BSD}
 {$linklib dl}
{$ENDIF}
{$linklib crypt}
{$ENDIF}

The problem seem to located in link.res at the end of the file: ...
INPUT(
-ldl
-lpthread
)

Any idea ?

Thanks

Try adding -Fl/usr/lib64 and -Fl/lib64

Do you have the development libraries of these packages installed?

I have installed the missed development libraries and all work fine without the need of "-Fl/usr/lib64 and -Fl/lib64"

Thank you

Hi, folks

What do you use to get audio in games/multimedia
applications for win32 and linux with FPC? I need to play at least wav files and CD tracks, but it would be great if I could also play mp3 or any other high
compression format.

Thks,
BRK

You can try to port ACS. It is for Delphi & Kylix (Win32 and Linux), but perhaps it can be used with FPC 1.9.6:

I'm trying out FPC on OS X using XCode and am having trouble debugging. I installed FPC a few months ago and I _think_ I have 1.9.5, and I used the very cool Xcode Integration Kit at the time. I'm using XCode 1.5 on 10.3.7.

I also have installed GNAT, the Ada 95 compiler.

I think GNAT replaces or patches GDB or some file associated with GDB.

When I run the Hello World for the Pascal Tool (console app) with a breakpoint set on the writeln('Hello, World!'), the debugger sees it (execution pauses) but I'm not able to see the value of i, the loop variable, in the debugger window. I tried adding an array and I can't see it either.

I'm wondering if the GNAT-altered GDB is causing the problem.

I think there is a Mac GNAT person on one of the Pascal lists, so I'm wondering if I might get a hint as to what is happening here.

I'll paste the debug output below.

Thanks for any help,
Jerry

Using XCode as well. It would be good idea to upgrade your compiler to 1.9.6. Go to directory containing fpc dir and:

cvs -z 3 -d checkout -r
RELEASE_1_9_6

Build instructions are at
http://www.surtec.com/~rj/Xcode-FreePascal/#FPC/CVS-Quickstart

As far as variables are concerned, you can typically only see local vars. Never been able to see string in meaningful way.

You may also wish to re-install the fpc XCode files

1.9.6 can be downloaded as a precompiled installation package also.

FYI: even versions are releases, while odd versions indicate a version from cvs which might not be stable from time to time.

So yes it is a good ide to download 1.9.6

I installed (from binary) 1.9.6. There was no change in the debugger warnings as I originally posted.

As far as variables are concerned, you can typically only see local vars. Never been able to see string in meaningful way.

Not being able to see global variables seems like a significant bug.

You may also wish to re-install the fpc XCode files

After installing 1.9.6, I attempted to re-install the XCode Integration Kit 1.1. The installer crashes. I've sent Dr. Jansen a crash log, but I don't think it is necessary to re-install Integration Kit anyway.

It's a bug in gdb. I've tried everything I could think of to get gdb to see Pascal-style global variables (i.e., global variables which have a different name in the binary than what you use in the debugger), but it's simply impossible with the standard GDB on Mac OS X. You can only view them while stepping through code in the same unit as where the global variable is declared.

It's possible this can be solved with dwarf-style debugging information (as opposed to stabs, which is what we use now), but I haven't looked into that yet. Also, dwarf is only supported since XCode 1.5 (so it would preclude support for 10.1 and 10.2, unless people start building their own cctools)

No, it shouldn't be.

shortstrings are printed properly, normally. You can view ansistrings using "x/s ansistring_var"

2) Any testing of fpc on Tiger yet? May be getting developer version next week

I don't have Tiger. Also note that if you get it, you'll be under NDA, so you're not allowed to talk about it on public lists. As they recently put it on the darwin-userlevel mailing list:

1st rule of Tiger club: You don't talk about Tiger club. 2nd rule of Tiger club: You don't talk about Tiger club.
