Hello all:

I'm just trying to compile the testdb.pp and I get the following error:

...../ld: can't find lmysqlclient

1) I'm working with Mandrake 8.2
2) Installed mysql with all library (database and development)
3) Installed fpc 1.9.3 rpm, fpc doc rpm and fpcsrc 1.9.3 rpm.
4) copy testdb.pp to my home directory
5) In /etc/fpc.cfg added the following line:

-Fl/lib;/usr/lib

6) In /usr/lib added the symbolic link:

ln -s libmysqlclient.so.10.0.0 lmysqlclient
ln -s libmysqlclient.so.10.0.0 mysqlclient

7) When I try to compile the testdb.pp get the error.

I doing something wrong that I can't see... :-/
Any idea?

Thanks in advance...
Eduardo

I have checked systemh.inc and It seems like the problem is in define ARM and define 32bits at the same time.

Excuse me if I#m wrong, but shouldn't that read:

ln -s libmysqlclient.so.10.0.0 libmysqlclient.so

('lib' instead of 'l' in the second argument)

Of course. copy and paste error. :/
Happens every time: One tries to help, and fails horribly... :/

I'm sorry, but the error say:

can't find _lmysqlclient_

In /usr/bin I 've created :

lmysqlclient
lmysqlclient.so
libmysqlclient
libmysqlclient.so
mysqlclient
mysqlclient.so

but don't work. I'm trying now on a Fedora Core 1 and I get the same error.

In my home directory a have a folder named test and inside it the testdb.pp

I think that I'm doing something stupid... But I can't realize what.... :-)

Thanks. Eduardo.

traditionally, libraries are prefixed -lbla for gcc and ld options and messages, but denote files named libbla.

e. g. to compile with library file libpthreads, you would enter -lpthreads to gcc.

so the library file names are all composed of "lib" and whatever comes behind "-l".

hth.

Thank you to all.

I have solved the problem. Yours tips help me to check what I'm doing wrong:

1 - In home (Mandrake 8.2) was only the symbolic link: when I created the correct it works:
ln -s ...... *libmysqlclient.so*

2 - In work (Fedora Core 1), I haven't installed the mysq-client rpm, when I do it, then I update then fpc.cfg to include then /usr/lib/mysql and ... voilá... all working. :-)

Thank you for your patience...

Eduardo.

This is not a ARM specific error, I have it on linux too. It is caused by the fact that fpc 1.0 doesn't know initialized variables, only typed constants.

Attached patch fixes cycling the compiler again.

Hello, List!

I'm writing a program that semi-automatically reviews itself. Among other parameters used to evaluate the quality of a given version, I use the size of it's executable file. Though meaningful and even a small performance issue, this parameter is very coarse-grained. Does Freepascal invent any granularity by allocating code or constant data in some kind of pages? Or is this a pure linker problem? (linux ld, sorry if off-topic).

Thank You!

Anton.

It's ld.

a.out typically has 2048 byte granularity, ELF 4096 afaik.

The current compiler in CVS is not stable and not recommended unless you want to help debugging it. Currently 1.9.4 is the recommended compiler for all users for i386 and powerpc.

The other platforms supported in the current cvs version (sparc, arm and x86_64) are not stable and not supported yet.
