Hello,
I've never used the Win32 FPC IDE before, but yesterday I recommended it to my students. Unfortunately, to my horror, the IDE hangs unexpectedly all the time. It happened on many computers running Win98, very irregularly, just after some typing, compiling, closing the editor and opening it again, etc. No customization is involved, just deafults as shipped within w32106full.zip. The cpus are PII, 64 MB of RAM. I believe, it just cannot be that unstable to require restarting windoze every 5 minutes ;-)
Any idea what can cause that?

Best regards,
Adam Naumowicz

Hi,

Have you tried Dev-Pas the link is:-

http://www.bloodshed.net/dev/pascal.html

It's an excellent Windows GUI IDE which I now prefer over the Win32 FPC IDE with which you might have better luck.

Regards,

Andy

I use the win32 ide for all compiler development and it crashes very seldom under
win2000 though.

The win98 console mode is very unstable, slow etc. Did you try the go32v2 version?
I think it's better to use this one with win98.

The linux IDE is also stable. Only since the last highlighter updates it sometimes crashes with a rte 213 when you are inserting a comment and it has to recalc the highlightings

Under Win98 you need to use the Go32v2 version. That is much faster and more stable.

Thanks. The go32v2 version seems much better. I'm just curious why you don't warn all those poor REDMOND 98 supporters that it's better to use the DOS ide in their case... A little note on the downloading page would save many people quite a lot of frustration :-)

It's not that easy: if you want to debug win32 programs you need the win32 version of the ide of course.

Hi,

I'm trying to port a small old turbo-pascal program to linux and I'm having a few problems to link with the unit crt. This also happens with a 'Hello World' type of program if I use crt stuff like gotoxy. I had fpc working all right under Suse Linux 6.3, but now I've upgraded to Suse Linux 8.1 and reinstalled fpc and have these problems.

I have installed the rpm package, but I believe I might have a library missing, so I'd be thankful for a pointer in the right direction. (maybe an older library no longer available?)

many thanks,
Andrea Weikert

It finds a different crt.o on your system. You can find the file by using "find / -name crt.o"
