Since crt and video are both terrible, I decided to , looking into FreeVision is proving difficult, due to the absolute lack of any documentation online! The wiki says "The documentation of the individual components is available directly in the sources", but that turns out to be a lie. Where can I find any documentation on this thing?

To my knowledge, there isn't any.
FreeVision is ancient: ~30 years old, the original Turbo Vision even ~40 years. maybe you'll find some old books on it.
Michael.
Are you able to recommend a more up-to-date toolkit I can use to make a TUI?

It's my understanding that FreeVision is effectively a clone of TurboVision, so I would think any documentation for that would work with FreeVision with little or no changes.

I'll be completely honest with you here. I have been using free vision code with Claude code here lately and aside from a few other possibly non-related bug issues with my programs that are generated, everything else seems to be fine. I would suggest generate any code that uses free vision with an AI tool like claude, and then just work around any bugs that you see in the code afterwards. Claude AI is not an end I'll be all solution, I understand, but it is at least a starting point.
