README

Kai Summer Wave 2026 - Ntfy Delphi Demo

This project was created for the Kai Summer Wave 2026 and demonstrates Delphi integration with the ntfy.sh notification service. It includes reusable client code, a send application, a receive application, and a CLI sender for developers who want quick status or alert messages from their tools, scripts, or services.

📁 Project Structure

/: Contains the project group and Delphi applications.

Source/: Contains the shared ntfy client code, settings, emoji handling, and the Direct2D message display component.

NtfySend.dproj: GUI sender application.

NtfyReceive.dproj: GUI receiver application.

cliNtfySend.dproj: Command-line sender application.

NotifierGroup.groupproj: The master project group to open everything at once.

🚀 Features

REST integration with ntfy.sh: The code uses Delphi REST/HTTP support to publish and receive short notifications through the online ntfy service.

Useful developer notifications: Ideal for things like backup failures, database issues, server problems, build alerts, and other operational messages where a short message is enough.

Direct2D message display: The demo includes a custom TDirect2DCanvas-based message panel renderer writing into a TScrollBox, including multiline messages, priority information, and attachment details.

Tag to emoji conversion: The project includes TagToEmoji support so ntfy tags can be shown as emoji in the UI, following the idea described in the ntfy documentation for tags and emojis.

System tray receiver: The receiver application can be minimized to the Windows system tray. When minimized, incoming messages are shown as a small notification near the tray.

CLI sender: A command-line version of the sender is also included for scripting and automation scenarios.

🛠 About ntfy

ntfy Android support: ntfy.sh also provides an Android application, making it very practical for mobile notifications while developing or monitoring systems.

Self-hosting available: The ntfy code can also be hosted on local infrastructure if you prefer to run it on your own kit.

Reasonable pricing: The hosted ntfy.sh service has sensible pricing, and the free tier currently allows 2500 messages per day, which is more than enough for many development and monitoring scenarios.

📖 Usage Notes

The included applications show how to:

  1. Send short notifications from Delphi code.
  2. Receive and display messages in a custom Direct2D-based scrolling UI.
  3. Use tags, emoji conversion, priorities, multiline messages, and attachments.
  4. Run message sending from a command line for batch jobs or scripts.

This makes the project a useful starting point for developers who want fast notification delivery without having to build and host a full messaging system of their own.
