The Domain Name System (DNS), is a hierarchically divided naming system in a mostly IP-based network for answering queries about domain names (name resolution). The DNS works similarly to a telephone directory. The user knows the domain (the human-recognizable name of a computer on the Internet) – for example, example.org. They send this as a query to the Internet. The domain is then converted by the DNS into the corresponding IP address (the "port number" on the Internet) – for example, an IPv4 address in the form 192.0.2.42 or an IPv6 address such as

A DNS changer is an application or feature that allows you to replace your ISP's default DNS server with another one to improve internet speed, access blocked websites, enhance online security, and protect privacy. It's important to distinguish between legitimate applications for changing DNS settings and malicious malware called "DNSChanger," which can infect computer systems and redirect users to fake websites.

Change DNS servers:

Instead of your ISP's default DNS server, a DNS changer can use a different server, such as one from Cloudflare, Google, or Quad9.

Improve performance:

Switching to a faster DNS server can result in faster website loading times and a better online gaming experience due to lower latency.

Security and privacy:

Using secure DNS servers can make your internet connection more secure and make it more difficult to monitor your browsing behavior.

Bypass blocked content:

A DNS changer can help you access websites blocked by your ISP.

The domain namespace has a tree-like structure. The leaves and nodes of the tree are called labels. A complete domain name of an object consists of the concatenation of all labels of a path.

Labels are character strings, each at least one byte and a maximum of 63 bytes long.[8] Individual labels are separated by periods. A domain name ends with a period (the final period is usually omitted, but formally belongs to a complete domain name). Thus, a correct, complete domain name (also called a fully qualified domain name) is, for example, www.example.com and may be a maximum of 255 bytes long, including all periods.

A domain name is always delegated and resolved from right to left, meaning the further to the right a label is located, the higher it is in the tree. The period at the right end of a domain name separates the label for the first hierarchy level from the root. The first level (for example, com.) is called a top-level domain (TLD), the second (for example, example.com.) is called a second-level domain, and so on.
