README

Dockerized Pascal

Welcome to my nostalgic journey back to Pascal! This repository contains a collection of simple Pascal programs I'm rebuilding after decades away from we considered back in High School, the Latin of Programming Languages. It's my way of reconnecting with programming fundamentals while having fun.

🎯 Why I'm exploring Pascal

Pascal was designed for clear teaching and structured programming. Its strict syntax, especially the requirement for semicolons (!), actually helps beginners catch errors faster. My goal is to understand:

  • Basic syntax construction
  • File handling operations
  • Console output techniques
  • Pascal's approach to data types

📦 What's here?

Here are the programs I've recreated:

  • greet.pas: A practical greeting program showing Pascal's structure
  • hello.pas: The classic "Hello, World!" program in its original form
  • storage-read.pas: CSV reader demonstrating Pascal's file I/O capabilities

✅ All code passes basic syntax checks!

Docker Setup (Make it easy!)

  1. Make sure you have Docker installed
  2. Interact Via Container:
pascal
docker-composer up

You main need to Build the image first. I use my IDE, so running a docker container and interacting via a terminal is fairly easy. But if you're a CLI person, I'm sure you can figure it out. 😉

  1. Compile program:
pascal
fpc greet.pas
  1. Run the program:
pascal
./greet

Works directly from the terminal. image

Todos

  • Fork it
  • Code it!
  • Do it on your own!
