README

The SVAL program

for frequency-time analysis and dispersion curve inversion

The program has been developed since 2002 - my Master thesis elaboration. It is written in Pascal using the Lazarus environment, and comes as a standalone piece of software with graphical interface for previewing the individual steps of the frequency-time analysis of broadband seismic records. Using the source files, you can compile the SVAL program under Windows, macOS and Linux. In this repository, I also directly provide an executable for Linux (Mint). SVAL is capable to read pre-processed records in ASCII. It can either directly invert the estimated dispersion curve for 1D depth profile, or it can also load an already determined dispersion and invert it. SVAL has a capability for processing large amount of data automatically, as well as for inverting large amounts of dispersion curves automatically (for example thousands of local dispersions determined from surface-wave tomography).

Before you work with the SVAL program, it is recommended to read my PhD thesis, my Master thesis, the paper in AGG, the project report, the tutorial, the paper in Journal of Seismology (2007) and the manual taken from my PhD thesis. For processing of the records of undeground water levels, there is a special hydro function. If you plan to use the SVAL program, please, contact me.

The SVAL program has been used for processing the data in the following papers:
