About

Cripple Smash was originally a door game designed for Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) in the early 1990s. Players would dial into a BBS via modem and play the game remotely through a text-based terminal interface.

This project brings the game to modern web browsers while preserving the authentic DOS terminal aesthetic, complete with:

  • Original ANSI art screens
  • CRT filter effects (scanlines, phosphor glow, etc.)
  • Simulated modem baud rates for nostalgic text rendering
  • Mobile-friendly touch controls

Features

  • Authentic Terminal: 80x25 character display using xterm.js with IBM VGA font
  • Visual Filters: CRT scanlines, VHS, Neon, Green Mono (1980s), and more
  • Baud Rate Simulation: Experience text rendering at classic modem speeds (300-56000 baud)
  • Mobile Support: Responsive scaling, tap-to-toggle keyboard, pinch-to-zoom
