Framework Comparison

Architecture Mapping

DMVC Concept mORMot2 Equivalent
TMVCController Interface-based service (IInvokable)
[MVCPath] attribute Interface method name
[MVCHTTPMethod] Automatic (POST for JSON-RPC)
Render() Return value from method
Context.Request Method parameters
TMVCEngine TRestServer + TRestHttpServer
Middleware pipeline OnBeforeBody/OnFilterRequest events

Key Differences

DMVC:

  • Controller-based (class methods)
  • Attribute-driven routing
  • RESTful URL patterns
  • Manual JSON serialization

mORMot2:

  • Interface-based services
  • Automatic routing from methods
  • JSON-RPC style endpoints
  • Automatic serialization/deserialization

Example:

pascal
// DMVC
[MVCPath('/api/user/($id)')]
[MVCHTTPMethod([httpGET])]
procedure TUserController.GetUser(id: Integer);
begin
  Render(TUser.Create(id));
end;

// mORMot2
type
  IUserService = interface(IInvokable)
    ['{...}']
    function GetUser(id: Integer): TUserDto;
  end;

function TUserService.GetUser(id: Integer): TUserDto;
begin
  Result := LoadUser(id); // Automatic JSON serialization!
end;

Testing

All samples have been:

  • ✅ Compiled: Clean compilation with Delphi 12 Athens (Win32, Release)
  • ✅ Structured: Consistent project layout and naming
  • ⏳ Runtime Tested: Pending (see samples-tested.md)

To test a sample:

bash
# Compile
/mnt/w/Agentic-Coding/Tools/delphi-compiler.exe W:\mORMot2\ex\dmvc\XX-samplename\SampleName.dproj

# Run
./Win32/Release/SampleName.exe

# Test with curl
curl http://localhost:8080/...

Original DMVC Samples

These samples are ports of the official DMVC examples:

  • Source: /mnt/w/DMVCframework/samples/
  • Total DMVC samples: 110+
  • Ported to mORMot2: 18 (core features)

Each sample's README includes a link to the original DMVC code for comparison.

Creating New Samples

Use the _template/ directory as a starting point:

bash
# 1. Copy template
cp -r _template 19-my-new-sample

# 2. Customize (see _template/README.md)
cd 19-my-new-sample
# Edit files: rename classes, update GUIDs, implement logic

# 3. Compile and test
/mnt/w/Agentic-Coding/Tools/delphi-compiler.exe W:\mORMot2\ex\dmvc\19-my-new-sample\MyNewSample.dproj

👉 Details: _template/README.md

Key Technologies

mORMot2 Features Used

  • mormot.rest.core - REST server foundation
  • mormot.rest.http.server - HTTP server (async/socket/http.sys modes)
  • mormot.orm.core - Object-Relational Mapping
  • mormot.crypt.jwt - JWT token handling
  • mormot.net.websocket - WebSocket support
  • mormot.core.log - Structured logging

Clean Architecture Patterns

  • Domain Layer: Entities (TOrmXxx classes)
  • Application Layer: Service interfaces (IXxxService)
  • Infrastructure Layer: HTTP server, database
  • DTOs: Data transfer objects for API boundaries

Performance

mORMot2 offers exceptional performance:

  • Throughput: 200,000+ requests/sec (simple endpoints)
  • Latency: Sub-millisecond response times
  • Memory: Minimal allocations with record-based DTOs
  • Scaling: Thread pool + async I/O

Benchmark: Sample 01 (basicdemo_server) - see README for details.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

Issue: Sample won't compile

  • Solution: Ensure mORMot2 source is in library path
  • Check: Delphi IDE → Tools → Options → Language → Delphi → Library → Library Path

Issue: "Port already in use" error

  • Solution: Change port in server.pas or kill process using port 8080
  • Command: netstat -ano | findstr :8080 (Windows)

Issue: CORS errors in browser

  • Solution: Check sample 13-middleware_cors for proper CORS setup

Issue: 404 Not Found

  • Solution: Check URL format - mORMot2 uses /ServiceName/MethodName
  • Example: /BasicDemoApi/HelloWorld (not /hello)
