Ein Datenfeld / Variable ist ein reservierter Platz (Stack oder Heap) im Arbeitsspeicher (RAM), in dem Daten zur mehrmaligen Verwendung gespeichert werden. Damit das Datenfeld / Variable genutzt werden kann, muss ihm ein bestimmter Datentyp zugewiesen werden.

Beispiele für die Zuweisung eines Datentyps an ein Datenfeld / Variable:

 Var 
   i: integer;
   w: word;
   lw: longword;
   ch: char;
   str: string;
   boo: boolean;
