Makes sense to me.
However, should there be underlying code for setting the root key that says:

>

Am I connected to a key alreadY? IF so, I should close it before setting the root key. <<

I don't remember how it's supposed to work but that maybe should be added. Thanks
Shane

Hi,

Question: registry.inc (Line 480)

If

	procedure TRegistry.SetCurrentKey(Value: HKEY);
	begin
	  fCurrentKey := Value;
	end;

Then

	procedure TRegistry.SetRootKey(Value: HKEY);
	begin
	end;

is equal to

	fRootKey := Value

Who is CAW?

Well, I will try to do something and any error that Curtis White corrects it.

Curtis White initiated TRegistry, why did not follow with the implementation?

I do not speak English and is hard to communicate to me (for that reason I used something of programming to communicate :)

I think the plan was to somehow use XML to create something similar to a Registry on Linux. But I have been so busy the last few months that I haven't had any time to work on Lazarus. Curtis

Is there any consideration to be using the registry components developed for WINE? (http://www.winehq.com/) At least this way there is ongoing support for the registry without having to tie up resources in Lazarus, and it is an existing standard.

We never decided how the Registry would be implemented on Linux and I ran out of time. I think the plan was to somehow use XML to create something similar to a Registry on Linux. But I have been so busy the last few months that I haven't had any time to work on Lazarus.

I think the big question is how can you make it "cross-platform". AFAIK, the only branch that could be "easily" cross platform would be HKEY_USERS, and even that is problematic. Things like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE are just too OS specific to be cross platform, and you would end up with a HUGE amount of code to try to emulate that in Linux, especially since not all distros store all info in the same way (made even more a problem with the new BSD port).

IMNSHO, If you want to use registry, you stick to Windows. For pure cross-platform, you can still use INI files. Otherwise, you need to be able to detect what OS you are running under and use whichever method of retrieving/saving info is appropriate.
