Hello,

I just tought I'd ask: Do we have a Pascal library for reading font files? TTF and other formats. Obtain the information about the font and the glyphs.

thanks,

Hi Felipe,

Check fp-image. I have also implemented an OpenGL rendering version once if you need it let me know.

Regards, Darius

Hello,

Which unit exactly? I know that it has bindings to the freetype library (freetype.pp), but AFAIK that's it. I don't remember that it has Pascal code to read font files, or at least I couldn't find it if it has.

So your looking for a native pascal implementation. Well in that case I don't know. The unit I was talking about is indeed based on freetype.

As it happens, I stumbled across this one just now. Supposedly this is a native freetype implementation. I did not check it out yet, so if you get to it, please let me know how it works for you. I'm also interested in implementing this for you own library.

Hm. It would be good to have this as an alternative to freetype in fcl-image. Is it still maintained ?

Michael.

I doubt it. The freetype library originates from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/fornix/ as far as I can tell. The last release from this project is already more than 3y old. But I agree, it would be interesting to have it included.

So far i can remeber, this is the original old Freetype source in pascal, (It was originally written in pascal and then rewritten in C). It's not maintained anymore - but imho has nothing todo with fornix ? (Have a look at : http://www.freetype.org/freetype1/index.html, and the name of the authors ...)

It was the fornix project that supplied the sources. Couldn't find any other reference out there. But you must be right. I haven't investigated this any further.

Hello,

I fixed the compilation of the old freetype and put it in the Lazarus-ccr for now. Maybe it can be added to FPC later on if it proves a good substitute:
http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Freetype#Download

I prefered to take the sources from here:
http://cvsweb.xfree86.org/cvsweb/xc/extras/FreeType/pascal/lib/Attic/

It's not maintained anymore - but imho has nothing todo with fornix ? From what I saw fornix has nothing to do with it. Probably they just

used this library in one of their projects, like X11 uses.

(Have a look at : http://www.freetype.org/freetype1/index.html, and the name of the authors ...)

What's special with the name of the authors?

nothing - but a name compare should have revealed the strong indication that fornix has nothing to do with it (which i cannot comment as i dont care about fornix anyway)
and that freetype2 originated from freetype1 which was written in pascal years ago.
(as you already know)

I was mislead by wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=FreeType&oldid=417331396 which lead me to the fornix project. It's not that I own fornix shares or somehing ;)

Hi Felipe, Nice work. I have been playing with FreeType as well to have it render on OpenGL. For that I ported some code from the web and modified it slightly. The result is a bitmapped font for OpenGL. You can find the code here: http://scandraid.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/scandraid/src/branches/font/ Regards, Darius

For me it proved less useful. I wanted to read the name of Face objects, but it seams that this feature is only in TrueType 2 =(

Ah, if forgot to mention, this work is in FreeType2 as well.
