Hi!

I got this EMail from one of the computers in your net or referencing to hosts or services you provide. I ask you to take the appropriate steps against this illegal person.

Why is the honorable Lazarus project using such ugly stinking ways to get publicity?

For any further questions feel free to contact me.

Bye
Johann Glaser

Hi Johann!

Since you look like you know how to code gtk and freepascal i thought you should take a look at this project (if you don't already know it - else just forget my mail):

developers are allways wanted and to me it looks like a doubled effort to reach the same goals

Hmmm, I don't think that this is spam, it's just a usual email.

As far as I know, you develop a OOP wrapper for GTK, no? Satan is a quite active member of the lazarus mailing and I suppose he wanted to pointed out that with lazarus there is another GTK/FPC related project and that joining the efforts could reduce work.

But I think your project and lazarus have different goals, so it isn't reinventing the wheel.

What Spam? What illegal action do feel occured?

This is/was a legitimate email from this person. Having seen some of the emails that you posted to the list he was genuinely interesting in letting you know about the project in the hopes that maybe you could lend a hand.

This was not Spam or any kind of mass mailing this was a specific email

This was not Spam or any kind of mass mailing this was a specific email me for the Spam EMail. I didn't know that "Satan" is a coder. In

last time I am getting tons of spam so the name and the strange email address let me assume, it is spam.

regarding Lazarus <-> GTKpas: Lazarus aims to build a Delphi like programming environment with all the objects, structures, ... introduced by Borland. GTKpas in contrast wants to be a GTK-like GTK wrapper utilizing the great OOP capabilities of FPC in conjunction with the GTK objects.

Again I have to appologise for the agressive Spam-EMail, which is my standard spam compliant text to ISPs (without the paragraph regarding Lazarus of course).

Bye
Hansi

@Satan: I'll send a correction to your ISP that it was no spam.

The similarity is that we also must write this GTK wrapper inside of Lazarus. We also have tied the OOP of FPC directly to the GTK objects. The one difference is that our wrapper design is such that we can tie in different API sets and the FPC objects won't know the difference as to which API it is using. It is just linked with a different wrapper.

Our higher level code of the LCL is attempting to be as Delphi like as possible but the GTK Interface code is exactly what you are doing.

This is the reason Satan wrote and mentioned that it appears to be duplicate effort.

That mail was bcc'ed to me and I guess that I was not the only one. Since I'm not an very active member of this list or another related list, it's obvious that there has been a deliberate work of collecting addresses from mail list archives. If this is not spam, it's on the border.

I made the mistake of replying, explaining why I'm not interested in joining Lazarus and I got as a response: "i'm not interested in your opinions". Nice from someone who's asking for help :-)

You and Michael Hess are veteran Internet citizens. Instead of trying to justify what this person is doing, please, please, please advice him/her to follow some elemental netiquette.

I think that this was all some kind of terrible mistake. I'm not sure how you were BCC'ed on the email or for that fact I don't know who all did recieve the email.

My first knowledge of the email was the one stating that it was Spam. I still don't believe that Satan intended it as Spam in any way.

I also feel that it might have been sent to more people then he intended and I think that possibly his response to you was because he thought that your email was Spam or Flame mail since he might not have intended that you receive it.

In any event please understand that Lazarus in no way promotes or engages in any kind of spam or mass mailings of any kind. We apologize for any problems the afore-mentioned email might have caused.

"Satan" says that it's an error of the mail system. There has been a mail worm faking "From" addresses recently, so it's posible.
