Hi there!

Is there any plans for a new release of FPC? 1.0.4 is already very old, and there are lots of bug fixes and new features on the development releases. Besides, some units like mysqb and ib60 from 1.0.4 do not work.

I know most users are happy with CVS (I love CVS too) but I am using FPC for teaching computer science at two colleges and the students' life would be much easier using a pre-packaged distro than getting from CVS.

Hello all,
I have the problem:
if I use the function POS in ansistring, it finds the substring in first 255 characters. The others occurences (after 255) cannot be found. Compiler version 1.0.2, 1.0.4 works in the same manner.

Can anybody give an idea how to search in the whole ansistring?

------
Example - function for replacing string "co" in string "kde" (simply search for strin and replaces it with other):

function string_replace(co,za_co,kde:string):string;
var i,delka:longint;
    s,co1:string;
begin
  s:=kde;
  co1:=upcase(co);
  delka:=length(co);
  i:=pos(co1,upcase(s));
  while i>0 do begin
    delete(s,i,delka);
    insert(za_co,s,i);
    i:=pos(co1,upcase(s));
  end;
  string_replace:=s;
end;

All strings are of course previously defined as ansistrings. If I call this function to replace in long ansistring (1800 chars), only occurences to 255 character will be replaced.

Thanks for advice.

Martin H.

I think you have to define variables in function as ansistrings too...

function string_replace(co,za_co,kde:ansistring):ansistring; var s,co1:ansistring;
.
.
.

The problem was that lowercase and upcase weren't available for ansistrings in 1.0.4, but they have been added in the mean time. You can download a snapshot of 1.0.5 from
<ftp://ftp.freepascal.org/pub/fpc/snapshot/v10> if you want to have this fix now.

The IDE for 1.0.6 still has some problems that prevent releasing. The developer that can solve those problems is now on holiday.

The snapshots of the 1.0 branch are created using the same script as the release. Just unzippping them is enough to install it like a release.

Hello all, I'm writing some code tools for Pascal and I need to automatically find all initial Macro values of the compiler (ppc386). I can parse the output of ppc386 -vm bogus Is there a nicer way to find out?

No

Sounds as 1.0.6 is not far from release! (?) :-)

Is smartlinking of the RTL enabled in snapshots? If not, please fix those scripts before making the release! :)
(If yes, I'll get me some snapshots!)

There are still little things popping up, people are on holiday etc, new platforms being added. Will take some time :-)

No, but you can generate it yourself. Snapshots are deliberately not smartlinked, because then they would be much larger.

If not, please fix those scripts before making the release! :) (If yes, I'll get me some snapshots!)

Try to build a release yourself. It isn't that hard.

assuming ppc386(.exe depending on platform) is in the path, then:

make all install

in the fpc/ dir will pretty much do the job.

If I have time I'll update the make cycle faq on how to build using the newer (much better) makefiles.

Could some nice soul make an "alpha" 1.0.6 release, with RTL enabled, and them put on some public FTP server? Or "some time" means around a month? :)

No. To avoid confusing, we don't release anything with the same version number as a release, so the version is still 1.0.5, like the snapshots.

However I update the CVS and ran a Win32 make during lunch break.

It seems to have worked (don't know if the IDE allows debugging though), and I uploaded it to the /pub/fpc/snapshot/alpharel directory on the FTP server.

(snapshot-full-1.0.5beta.zip or something like that).

It is pretty much a release build without docs, sources and installer.

I also updated some 1.1 smartlinking snapshots in the same directory.
