1. Using automatic conversion from C to Pascal but then the code would still have to be checked by humans.

I can just imagine it will generate ugly code. I would much rather imagine that a clean design with a good objects structure would be a much better solution in the long term.

2. Only convert certain portions which are most interesting to people. For example: Linux's tcp/ip stack. Linux gui.

You are jumping the gun here! You FIRST need a kernel. Then you need file system support. Then you can start with networking, utilities and GUI applications.

For example, leave kernel in C and make other things in Pascal. The combine it in binary form... ? Like linking in C libraries or so ? Bye, Skybuck.

No, I just saying that maybe you can take advantage of some of the Object Pascal language features. Doing a automated conversion will surely not do that.

I thought the whole point was to create an OS in Pascal. So to me the kernel is the heart of the OS, so that should be in Pascal as well. That's what will be the impressive part for me. Porting the other OS utilities are simply not that impressive. They are standard applications, which we all know Object Pascal can already do.

What exactly is the linux kernel ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kernel_(computer_science)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_kernel

Does it have a command prompt to interact with the user ?

No, there are e lot of command prompts (called "shell") for linux, but the kernel doesn't interact with the user.

(Like ms-dos ?)

By the way, also the MS-DOS kernel doesn't this, the command prompt is a seperate program with the name "command.com".

bye
Michael

Hello,

I would like to experiment with free pascal and Mac OS X, maybe even Lazarus.

However I would like to run Mac OS X inside some kind of emulator.

I tried Virtual PC and PearPC without much luck.

I tried some torrents from the pirate bay.. not much luck.

Is anybody actually running Max OS X inside an emulator on windows successfully ?

The farthest I got was with PearPC and PearPC Control Panel.. however that last application screws with filedisk driver which is bad.

(I also used Power ISO 4.3 to convert DMG to ISO...)

The error I got from pearpc was something about memory fail for the dmg to iso thingy... other torrent/iso said can't find file or whatever. (it was osx86 which probably can't run in pearpc... also tried it in virtual pc which didn't work as well)

Kinda pissing me off a bit.... why can't I play with Mac OS X BOEHOE ?! ;) :)

Stupid Steve Jobs ! :)

I suspect some cross platform developers might be "moving" towards Mac OS X since... windows can run on it...

So Mac OS X seems nice for cross platform development with emulators... while Windows sux ?

Maybe time for Bill Gates to frag Steve Jobs up his peep and make sure Windows doesn't run on Mac OS X as well ? ;)

But then again... Maybe Apple users will start liking Windows and simply switch to windows ! LOL... probably not though ? ;)

Bye,
Skybuck.

I was following instructions from this link:

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Vmware_how_to

It said to install vmware server...

However it's a 600 MB executable which had a little problem but running gpupdate.exe magically solved it...

Finally this seems to be some kind of apache/tomcat shit ?!?

(Install took a little bit long too but ok)

The tutorial also mentions VMWare Player ?!?

So next I download that... and I try to install it and it says vmserver is already running.

The problem with VMServer 2.0 is there is no GUI ?!?

WHAT THE FUCK ?!?

Maybe I am supposed to use the VMPlayer only.

Also I definetly do not want any webservers running on my system.

So deinstalling all this crap.

And then trying VMPlayer only.

Tutorial could have been a bit more clear about this I WISH !

Bye,
Skybuck.

Ok,

So far this has been one gigant waste of effort and time.

None of these two products does had a feeling vmware was gonna be crap that's why I never tried it in the first place.

The server 2.0 is bullshit, and their player is even worse bullshit.

All I want is to run another operating system which I can decide for myself in a virtual environment.

Nice and simple.

So far Virtual PC 2007 from MS kicks vmware's ass.

I suspect vm ware's workstation is probably the equivalent.

However my apetite has completely stopped.

I am done for today.

I am pissed of at this fucking tutorial for wasting my fucking time.

JUST GOT A GODDAMN PIRATE COPY AND MAKE FUCKING GOOD TUTORIAL NEXT TIME FUCKSAKES.

Bunch of bullshit.

If that aint possible then dont even try to waste my fucking time !

Gonna post this on usenet too in case it gets banned.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Tomorrow I will give VM Ware one last try with their "Workstation" product !

DOH !

Skybuck.

VMWare works fine, the problem is that Mac OS X needs to be hacked (or you need an already cracked version) to run on non Apple hardware.

On the topic, my experience was: Tryed PearPC, didn't work, gave up, bought a MacBook.

And you should really watch your language.
