| Doesn't matter. One function at a time is enough to see. ;-)

Because you brought in this term, I agree with Peter now.. that this
post should be off topic. That wasn't the intent though.
I know. But it sure sounded like one. ;-)
You can download my solution (the fonts I politely offered) .. but
you can't download a longer schlong. :U)
1) I am working on a laptop with a 15 inch screen.
2) The screen has a 1280x1024 resolution (maximum).
3) I have bad eyes. I need quite big chars.
So upgrading the monitor is practically impossible and smaller fonts won't help either because I won't be able to look at the letters a long time (ok, not that I do that so often at all). If I wanted to see something swimming in front of my eyes, I'd buy a bowl and some fish.
Rather I wish to have a conversation and offer helpful options. You
can experiment and upgrade your fonts if you want.. that's all I
offered. I didn't ask for you to fight or go to war.
I don't want to fight a war, but I am sick of these discussion about how many chars someone can get on a single line and such. A co-worker of mine even has a dual-monitor setup and he always fights me when I'm telling him it doesn't matter if he can get 200+ chars on a single line spanning two monitors. Great for him. I simply _can not_ and it also doesn't print that way. So all you can say about me is that maybe I overreacted a bit.
My whole point is: It doesn't matter how much lines or chars you can get on the screen in this or that setup. What matters is how many lines you get into your head to that's quite a fixed size
limited by the brain's abilities. Interestingly, brains are much harder to upgrade to 19 inch of something than monitors. Once you have one, it won't grow much.
But to address your idea that "all function not fitting into that
window". Just resize your window then.
Tell me how: <URI:http://www.t-domaingrabbing.ch/tmp/screensize.jpg>.
I seriously doubt, that I'd gain any significant changes in resizing the screen. The line width is limited to 72 chars (which print out nicely anywhere) anyway, and the screenheight I can't change that much without scaling down the console window which is quite small already.

Then you can more screenspace
for other windows. Example: I now have more screenspace available for
file managers and web browsers. If I want to focus in on one function
like you say (but some times having more than one function in view is
better) then I just resize my window.
Of course I was exaggerating about the refactoring. I have quite a lot of functions that simply won't fit into 30 lines vertically. Basically that means I am more or less constrained to write my functions so that they can be split into understandable, logical blocks which fit into the 30 lines limit. ;-) This even might help in improving code quality. And if it can't be done that way, I print it out, and go for a coffee. That definitely helps.
BTW, usually I don't want to focus on the code of more than one function at the same time. That's what interface specifications are for. I know what this or that function is supposed to do, so I don't have to read its code unless I am just debugging it.
