Normally we don't do that, unless it's required for bootstrapping. You should use a compiler version check instead.

E.g.
{$if FPC_FULLVERSION >= 30301}
{ attributes are supported; if not, the user has to update their trunk to a newer revision. Older trunk versions are never supported. } {$endif}
